BIKING the GLOBE
2 guys, 2 bikes and one hell of a ride...
Having been friends and bikers for well over 10 years and a love of all things involving two wheels, this is our story of how we gave up the comfortable life to seek adventure and ride much of our amazingly diverse planet using the route less travelled. Armed only with our steel horses we set off in May 2005 to fulfill our dream and ride into the unknown. We endured malaria, random bouts of food poisoning and serious accidents, but most importantly, memories that will last forever. What we didn't want to do is the tourist traps but rather ride to places that most other people would never visit.
Two mates, Two bikes and a half baked plan to ride across 4 continents, 37 countries and a couple of oceans travelling a total of 54,000 miles. We used 12,000 liters of fuel, 35 tyres, We had only 4 months to prepare and were travelling without support. Out there alone, a little green and neither of us having ridden in the third world before. We started out travelling through western Europe before riding the entire length of the African continent then shipping our bikes to Brazil, we rode to the far south Patagonia and up through South and Central America and into the US. We reached the far north of Alaska before heading east across the entire USA and finally arranged shipment of our bikes home from Toronto, Canada.
The purpose of documenting our journey is to inspire others to travel. Visiting, exploring and embracing other countries and cultures is the greatest eductaion for fully understanding how we all survive under very different circumstances in our mad crazy world. We wanted some good to come from our travels and so we partnered with UNICEF in an attempt to help in some small way of bringing the plight of children in the thirld world to those more fortunate.
We hope you enjoy the journey and please contact us with any questions or feedback
